Pensacola, FLORIDA - The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team was swept, 7-0, by Gulf South foe, No. 9 West Florida University on Saturday morning at West Florida's home courts.
The Rattlers played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the Heartland Conference, having already faced multiple ranked teams Hawaii Pacific, Hawaii at Hilo, and Southwest Baptist this season.
In doubles play, Jose Antelo alongside teammate Brendan Brown played a close match against West Florida's Igor Cantanhede and Pedro Cordeiro, the No. 2 doubles duo were able to close out the match 6-4. The Argonauts claimed victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions, giving them a 1-0 lead over the Rattlers.
West Florida earned straight set victories on five of the six courts from the Rattlers in singles play. At the No. 5 position, freshmen Louis Bonnay displayed grit as he fell in a tough three-set battle to opponent Juan Motta; falling 6-4, 3-6, 0-1.
