AUSTIN — The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team fell 96-62 to St. Edward's in Austin on Saturday, despite a career-high 16 points from
Lamont Traylor and 22 from
Caleb Jordan.
Jordan made a new career-high five 3-pointers in the loss, and Traylor made all seven of his field goal attempts to top his previous career high of 13 set last week against Bethany.
Kobe Magee led the team in rebounds with six, and
Markques Houston's game-high four assists were a new career high.
Matej Gaspert tied his career high of three blocks to lead the team.
The Rattlers went up 4-0 to start the game, but the Hilltoppers then went on a 20-0 run to take a lead they would maintain for the remainder of the game. St. Edward's went up by 30, 45-15, just before halftime, but Jordan hit his second three of the half to enter the break down 45-18.
St. Mary's had a quick 9-0 run early in the second half, but St. Edward's responded to nearly every blow the Rattlers threw at them. St. Mary's was unable make a substantial dent in the lead, and the Hilltoppers were able to reach the eventual 34-point final deficit in the final minutes of the game.
The next chance for the Rattlers comes on Jan. 2 against Arkansas-Forth Smith at home in Bill Greehey Arena at 7:30 p.m.
