Rattlers split opening day of regular season

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Rattler Volleyball opened the new campaign on Friday, splitting the first two matches of the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational.
 
After a five-set loss to host Angelo State, the Rattlers bounced back in convincing fashion, sweeping East Central 3-0. 
 
With the duo of Bree Perry and Haley Bradfute spearheading the Rattler attack with a combined 35 assists and 18 kills from Channing Hankins, St. Mary's picked up its first win of the new season.
 
Hankins impressive performance included a .417 hitting percentage.
 
The day began with the Rattlers dropping a grueling five-set match to Angelo State, the No. 1 team in the Lone Star Conference preseason rankings.
 
In their Rattler debut, KK Payne led with a team-high 15 kills as Julia Deais' three blocks tied for the most on the team.
 
Perry logged 25 assists while Bradfute posted 18 of her own as Hankins tallied 12 kills in the losing effort.
 
St. Mary's will conclude the opening weekend of the season with a pair of games tomorrow beginning with a match against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 8 a.m.
