Seniors lead Rattler to split on Senior Day

SAN ANTONIO — With the Heartland Conference Tournament on the horizon, the St. Mary's Rattlers split a doubleheader against Newman on Saturday.
 
A complete-game shutout from Fernando Fernandez-Beltran highlighted a 5-0 victory in the series opener.
 
The senior tossed seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out three.
 
Fellow seniors James Davison, Jacob Aguilar and Angel Vega produced offensively as Davison and Aguilar each posted 2-for-2 performances at the plate. Vega and Aguilar would account for two RBI each.
 
In the nightcap, the Rattlers fell 8-6 despite multi-hit games from Davison, Aguilar, Donnie Perez and Andrew Perez.
 
Donnie Perez recorded an RBI double in the first before connecting on an RBI single in the seventh.
 
On Sunday, the Rattlers and Jets will conclude the regular season with a doubleheader at Dickson Stadium.
