@StMUbaseball tops UAFS, fall one game short of Heartland finals

CLEBURNE, Texas — Facing a pair of elimination games on Friday, Rattler Baseball battled in a pair of games against UAFS and Lubbock Christian.
 
In the day's first game, the Rattlers fought off elimination, defeating the Lions 7-4 behind a complete-game outing from Zach De La Garza. The pitcher tossed six strikeouts, allowing only two-earned runs on eight hits, holding UAFS to only one run through the final eight innings.
 
Donnie Perez carried the load offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a home run.
 
The turning point of the game was when the Rattlers struck for five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a pair of two-RBI singles from Perez and Angel Vega. Andrew Perez would cap the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
 
Jacob Aguilar produced an impressive outing at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
 
Against Lubbock Christian in the final game of the day, the Rattler comeback fell short with with Donnie Perez once again at the heart of the Rattler offensive attack.
 
The Heartland Player of the Year accounted for three of the Rattlers' five RBI, going 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run, marking the third-straight game that the junior went yard.
 
Bryce Brandl went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI as Vega finished with another multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored.
