Hilltoppers deny Rattlers return trip to nationals

AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward's overcame an early St. Mary's lead to defeat the Rattlers 5-4 in South Central Regional Men's Tennis action.

The Rattlers (14-8) led 3-0 after doubles, but a resilient Hilltopper squad clawed back in singles to steal the match to deny the Rattlers a return trip to the NCAA national championship tournament.

Here is a breakdown of the match:

In singles:

1. #10 Jeremiah Gonzalez (STMU) def. #53 Chase Bartlett (SEU) 6-2, 7-6 (7-0)

2. #62 Luis Diaz (SEU) def. Bojan Popovic (STMU) 6-4, 6-4

3. Gabriel Zuniga (SEU) def. Jose Antelo (STMU) 6-1, 6-2

4. Andre Mercado (SEU) def. James Weatherhead (STMU) 6-4, 6-2

5. Mateus de Col (SEU) def. Alex Gee (STMU) 3-6, 6-4, 6-3

6. Chase Morehouse (SEU) def. Brendan Brown (STMU) 7-5, 6-4

In doubles:

1. #11 Jeremiah Gonzalez/Bojan Popovic (STMU) def. #44 Chase Bartlett/Luis Diaz (SEU) 8-3
