Rattlers earn hard-fought split against UAFS

FORT SMITH, Arkansas — St. Mary's split the final day of its four-game set against UAFS on Friday. 
 
Capping the day with a thrilling 10-8 victory in 11 innings, the Rattlers battled behind a four-RBI performance from Oscar Betancourt.
 
Betancourt, along with James Davison, Mario Vela and Nick Galaviz each recorded multi-hit games.
 
A Jacob Arevalo sac-fly, followed by a Davison RBI-single in the 11th gave the Rattlers their 27th victory of the season.
 
Matt Merrill picked up the victory on the mound after tossing two shutout innings, allowing only one hit.
 
The day began however with the Rattlers falling 2-1 as their offense was held to only four hits.
 
Galaviz accounted for the only RBI for the Rattlers in the fifth inning when he singled down the left field line.
 
Next week, the Rattlers will visit Texas A&M International for a four-game series before returning home to finish the regular season.
