Baseball splits Day 1 against St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas — Bryce Brandl had himself a day in leading St. Mary's Baseball past St. Edward's, 8-4, Friday evening at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
 
Brandl was 3 for 5 with two home runs and a double to go along with two RBI and three runs scored in the game, as the Rattlers (11-5) bounced back from a Game 1 loss to split the day's action in nonconference play.
 
St. Edward's (9-6) took Game 1, 4-2.
 
In the nightcap, Zach De La Garza picked up his third win of the season after pitching seven effective innings that saw him allow just one run while scattering six hits. He also struck out four.
 
James Davison and Nick Galaviz each stole a base in the game.
 
Slugger Jacob Aguilar added two RBI on a 2-for-5 day, while Galaviz added two RBI as well.
 
In the opener, Donnie Perez drove in both of the Rattlers' runs on a two-RBI double in the third inning.
 
The teams will wrap up play with another doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
