Late rally gives Rattlers split against Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — St. Mary's split its doubleheader on Thursday against Oklahoma Christian.

After getting shutout 5-0 in Game 1, the Rattlers rallied in the sixth inning of Game 2, earning the split with a 4-3 victory.

Steven Wynn collected a pair of RBI while going 1-for-1 at the plate as Jacob Aguilar and Mario Vela posted a hit, an RBI and a run each.

Zach De La Garza went the full nine innings on the mound, allowing only three runs on four hits and a walk. The starting pitcher also posted an impressive 11 strikeouts to collect his sixth win of the season.

In the opening game, the Rattlers could do little against the Eagles starting pitcher Connor Litterell who tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout.

The only Rattlers to collect a hit in the ballgame were Aguilar, Vela, Andre Perez and James Davison as Fernando Fernandez-Beltran valiantly tossed a complete-game in a losing effort.

Tomorrow, the Rattlers and Eagles will wrap up their four-game series with a doubleheader scheduled for noon.
