SAN ANTONIO — No. 22-ranked St. Mary's Baseball extended its home winning streak to 14 before finally suffering its first home loss of the season.
Oscar Betancourt's walk-off RBI single to left field capped off a wild Game 1 victory that saw the Rattlers win 4-3 in extra innings Friday at Dickson Stadium.
Down to their final strike, James Davison gave the Snakes renewed life with a two-RBI single to centerfield to tie up the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh. Then, in the ninth, Betancourt delivered with his second hit of the day to drive home Bryce Brandl for the winning run.
Rogers State bounced back in the nightcap, however, winning 2-0 to hand the Rattlers their first home loss of the season. St. Mary's now stands 14-1 at home this season.
Branson Hall earned the Game 1 victory for St. Mary's, improving to 2-2 on the season. Hall's relief appearance saw him pitch six scoreless innings, fanning nine while scattering three hits and a walk.
St. Mary's improved to 19-7 overall and 3-1 in Heartland Conference play after winning the series, 3-1, to open up league play.
The Rattlers will return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Oklahoma City to open a four-game series at Oklahoma Christian.
