Johns tosses one-hit gem as Rattlers take series against RSU

CLAREMORE, Oklahoma — If there was any question as to how St. Mary's would respond after falling to Rogers State in walk-off fashion the night before, the Rattlers settled any doubt with a 9-0 victory over the Hillcats on Saturday.
 
Staci Johns dominated in the circle, tossing her eighth complete game, fourth shutout of the season, as she allowed only one-hit while striking out four to improve her season record to 12-3.
 
At the plate, Abigale Carney, Marcela Vasquez and Taylor Germain each contributed multiple hits.
 
The trio combined for six of the Rattlers' nine hits as Vasquez would homer and drive in three runs while Carney posted a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
 
With the win, the Rattlers improve to 11-1 in conference, claiming sole possession of first in the Heartland.
 
Next Tuesday, the Rattlers will conclude the road trip with a non conference doubleheader against Tarleton State in Stephenville.
