Baseball completes sweep of Dustdevils on St. Patrick’s Day

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's completed its sweep of Texas A&M International on Saturday as the Rattlers took the afternoon doubleheader.
 
Both games were highlighted by first inning outbursts by the Rattler offense.
 
In Game 1, the Rattlers scored four runs in the first inning, en route to a 6-2 victory.
 
Andrew Perez delivered at the plate a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI and a pair of runs while James Davison tallied a pair of hits from the leadoff spot.
 
Cole Hybner improved his record on the mound to 4-0 as he tossed six solid innings, allowing only one run on eight hits.
 
Game 2 began in similar fashion as the Rattlers ended the weekend with a 13-9 win, opening the game with an eight-run first inning.
 
A two-RBI single down the left field line by Zach Johnson began the proceedings. The inning would be capped by a base-clearing, three-RBI double from Mario Vela.
 
Oscar Betancourt finished the game with two hits, three RBI and a run scored.
 
Weston Smith picked up the win as he improved to 2-0 on the mound. The freshman tossed 5.1 innings allowing no earned runs while striking out two.
 
The Rattlers now set their sights on conference play beginning next week when they host Rogers State beginning on Thursday.
