Rattlers cap weekend with Battle of the Saints victory

AUSTIN, Texas — A wild Saturday ended with St. Mary's splitting the final doubleheader of the weekend with St. Edward's.
 
The series finale saw the Rattlers win 8-0 with a shutout performance on the mound from Weston Smith who struckout five while allowing only five hits in seven complete innings.
 
Home runs from Donnie Perez and Bryce Brandl set the tone for the eight-run outburst by the Rattlers as Jacob Aguilar posted a two-hit, two-RBI game at the plate.
 
Brandl would finish with a game-high three RBI as the Rattlers improved to 12-6 overall.
 
In Game 1, both teams traded runs in bunches as the Rattlers rallied from as many as three runs to force extra innings, only to fall 10-9 in walk-off fashion.
 
Perez began the game with a home run to right field as James Davison gave the Rattlers the lead in the sixth inning with a three-RBI double to left field.
 
Davision would finish the game with four RBI on a pair of hits despite the loss.
 
On Friday, the Rattlers will host Texas A&M International in the first of two afternoon games beginning at 2 p.m.
