SAN ANTONIO — The 2018 St. Mary's College Softball Classic came to an end on Sunday with the St. Mary's Rattlers splitting a pair of games against regional opponents Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State.

Frigid temperatures provided an added challenge as the Rattlers opened the day with a 9-4 victory over ENMU.

Trailing 2-0 after the first half inning, the Rattlers erupted for eight unanswered runs, including a four-run outburst in the fifth inning.

Brenda Iparraguirre and Taylor Germain each recorded a pair of RBI as seven of the Rattler starters tallied a base hit.

Alessandra Ortiz posted the lone extra-base hit of the ball game for St. Mary's as she finished 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Picking up the win was Hope Russell who tossed 5.2 innings, ending strong with four scoreless innings.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers battled against undefeated Tarleton State, falling to the TexAnns 7-2.

Despite Alex Moreno hitting the first home run of her career in the 2nd inning, the Rattlers could not overcome an early deficit.

An RBI double down the left field line by Brenda Iparraguirre in the third would trim the Tarleton State lead.

Three runs by Tarleton State would put the game away as the Rattlers would end the weekend with a 3-3 record.

Softball will return to action on Feb. 16 when it plays at the Florida Tech Invitational, in what will be the final games before conference play.
