Women's Soccer battle, fall in OT to Patriots

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's battled against the top team in the Heartland Conference on Thursday night, falling 3-2 in overtime.

Both teams traded goals early in the match with DBU striking first in the third minute. Just over six minutes later, Morgan Cave scored the equalizer that was sparked by Lauren Mlouhi who assisted on the play after forcing a turnover in the midfield.

In the late stages of the match, the Rattlers looked to be on the verge of completing the upset when Miranda Narvaez deposited a goal past keeper Hope Koym to put the Rattlers up 2-1 with less than five minutes to play in the match.

Just over a minute later, a freekick from Summerlyn Heller tied the match, keeping the Patriots alive in the match.

Then in the 98th minute, moments after the Rattlers' Erin Longford recorded her eighth save of the match on a freekick, the Patriots ended all hopes for an upset when Delaney Schmidt headed a cross into the back of the net.

Saturday, the Rattlers will look to bounce back on the road against Texas A&M International at 7 p.m.
