Rattlers fall in season finale; set to host Chaps in postseason opener

WICHITA, Kansas — After securing the home field for the opening round of the Heartland Conference Tournament on Thursday, St. Mary's Men's Soccer finished the regular season on the road against Newman, falling to the Jets 1-0 on Saturday.
 
The Rattlers couldn't overcome a 2nd minute goal by the Jets, as they finish the season at 10-4-3 overall and 8-4-2 in conference.
 
Jesus Valenzuela led the Rattlers with three shots, placing one on frame while senior Reis Woolley logged two shots in his final regular season match.
 
No. 3 St. Mary's now sets its sights on hosting No. 6 Lubbock Christian in the opening match of the Heartland Conference Tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
 
The historic match is the first time the Rattlers are hosting a postseason match at Sigma Beta Chi Field. Earlier in the season, the Rattlers defeated the Chaps 2-1 on Oct. 20 at home with goals from Martin Ibarreche and Heartland Conference Golden Boot winner Pato Botello Faz.
