Lift off! Wilson's late dagger downs Jets

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Hannah Wilson squared up and drained a jumper from the block with 4.1 seconds remaining Thursday, lifting the St. Mary's Rattlers past the Newman Jets, 72-70, at Bill Greehey Arena.

Wilson finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Soteria Banks scored a team-high 17 points. Playing all but one minute, Arysia Porter scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists.

St. Mary's (8-9, 2-2 in Heartland Conference) trailed 45-41 at the break following a strong second quarter from the Jets in which they outscored the Snakes 30-21.

But the Rattlers took control of the second half, dominating in the paint to win the rebounding battle (42-32) and outscore the Jets in the paint, 34-20.

Audrey Wandji led a terrific Rattler bench, scoring 12 of the team's 24 bench points. She shot 5 of 7 in the game. Sierra Dixon chipped in with eight more points off the bench.

St. Mary's will return to action Saturday, when it takes on Oklahoma Christian in a locally televised game on KCWX Channel 2. The game will tip at 3 p.m. from Bill Greehey Arena.
