@StMUWBB holds off Huston-Tillotson

LAREDO, Texas —  Arysia Porter poured in 20 points, five steals, five rebounds and four assists as St. Mary's Women's Basketball held off Huston-Tillotson in the opener of Thursday's Courtyard Marriott Classic.

The tournament, hosted by Texas A&M International, saw the Rattlers hold off Huston-Tillotson as it attempted to chip away at the Rattlers' 34-16 halftime lead throughout the second half. St. Mary's (3-6) led by six in the final seconds, but a 3-pointer with one second remaining cut the lead in half.

Kealani Marquez scored 12 points in the victory, while Hannah Wilson added nine. Soteria Banks had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points off the bench. Sierra Dixon matched Porter with four assists to tie for the team high.

St. Mary's shot a tick above 40 percent in the game (23 of 57) and made five 3-pointers while shooting 71 percent from the free-throw line.

The Rattlers won the battle in the paint, outscoring Huston-Tillotson 26-12 in the paint.

The Rattlers will round out tournament play Friday, with a 1 p.m. game against Arlington Baptist.
