LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — In the sixth match of a 10-match road trip to begin the season, the Rattlers faced West Georgia in the first match of the Bellarmine Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday morning.

Defeating the Wolves in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-16, St. Mary's picked up its second victory of the season behind a match-high 11 kills and eight digs from Maddi King and a 31 assists from Bree Perry.

St. Mary's followed by dropping a classic, five-set match 3-2 against tournament host Bellarmine, falling 25-23, 22-25, 13-25, 25-17, 12-15. Maddi King had 15 kills, Shelley Chapron added 14 and Tarine Grace registered 11. But despite the impressive offensive attack, Bellarmine remained undefeated (6-0) behind Margaret Horihan's 28 kills.

Bree Perry's season-high 51 assists paced the Rattlers, while King and Amanda Lake led the squad with 15 digs apiece.

St. Mary's hit .226 in the game, but Bellarmine bettered the attack by hitting .256.

Earlier in the day against West Georgia, Megan Isbell anchored the Rattlers' defense with a match-high five blocks to go along with her seven kills.

Freshman Shelley Chapron contributed seven kills of her own as the Rattlers outscored the Wolves 13-5 to close out the match, reeling off seven-straight points in one stretch.

St. Mary's will continue play Saturday morning, when the Rattlers take on Alderson Broaddus at 11:30 a.m.
