@StMUvolleyball earns split on final day of ASU Tournament

SAN ANGELO, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball closed out the Angelo State Tournament with an impressive 3-0 victory over South Dakota Mines on Saturday.

The victory followed a 3-0 loss to Regis, as the Rattlers closed out the season-opening tournament with a 1-3 record to start the season. 

Maddi King was terrific in the victory, registering 10 kills and eight digs while hitting .231 for the Snakes. Freshman Bree Perry continued to lead setting the table for her teammates, totaling 25 assists in the match, while Amanda Lake posted a team-high 17 digs. 

After a tight 26-24 first-set victory, St. Mary's rolled over the next two sets, surrendering just 26 more points en route to winning 25-14 and 25-12. 

St. Mary's dominated the offensive attack, outhitting South Dakota Mines .276-.096. 

Against Regis, the Rattlers lost a marathon second set, 32-30, that swung a 2-0 advantage in Regis' favor when the Rattlers were looking to even the score at 1-1. Regis prevailed in the match 25-18, 32-30, 25-16. 

Tarine Grace led the Rattlers' attack with 12 kills, followed by King's eight. Perry had a team-leading 18 assists while Ashley Perez led with 10 digs. 

Regis (2-1) outhit St. Mary's (1-3) .259-.033, committing just 14 errors to the Rattlers' 29. 

The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, when they play Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas.
