Men's Soccer opens season in style

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma — A new era in the St. Mary's Men's Soccer program began with an impressive 3-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist Friday night.
 
Matt Barnes picked up his first victory as the Rattlers' head coach behind a strong defensive performance, anchored by goalkeeper Jack Moore who picked up his first shutout of the year as he recorded one save.
 
Goals from Dan Johns, Luis Sanchez and Juan Sanchez set the tone for the Rattlers in the first half.
 
Johns' goal came in the 18th minute when he got past the keeper, depositing his first goal as a St. Mary's Rattler. Several minutes later, Luis Sanchez tallied his first goal of the season off a beautiful cross from Pato Botello Faz, doubling the Rattlers lead.
 
A goal from Juan Sanchez late in the half extended the lead to 3-0 as the Rattlers outshot OBU 10-5 in the first half.
 
The Rattlers now set their sights on a six-game homestand beginning on Sept. 9 against Colorado Mesa at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
