OC ends Rattlers season in Heartland Tournament

BELTON, Texas — St. Mary's could not overcome a surge from Oklahoma Christian dropping the final elimination game of the Heartland Conference Tournament, 4-1, at Red Murff Stadium on Friday night.
 
The No. 4 seed in the conference valiantly battled against the No. 3 Eagles. After a homer in the second gave OC the lead, StMU responded with an RBI from Zach Johnson in the bottom of the frame.
 
It took a squeeze bunt from the Eagles in the fifth to retake the lead, as they would tack on two runs in the seventh. But the Rattlers would not go away, as they would get runners into scoring position in the later stages of the ballgame.
 
Keith Funk tried to spark a rally in the ninth, lining a leadoff triple to left center field, only to be left stranded as the Rattlers were eliminated.
 
In his final game, Funk went 2-for-3 with a walk as he anchored the Rattlers defense from behind the plate.
 
The only other Rattler to notch an extra base hit was Angel Vega, who went 1-for-4 with a double in the second inning.
 
Cole Hybner and Trent Rousseau combined on the pitching effort for the Rattlers, combining for eight strikeouts while allowing nine hits.
 
Finishing with a 32-21 record, the Rattlers ended the season as one of the hottest teams in the conference, winning seven of their last nine games to secure a spot in the postseason.
