Fields' 23 points ignite @StMUWBB past Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY — LaBraile Fields hit the 20-point mark for the third straight game Saturday, scoring 23 to lead St. Mary's Women's Basketball past 96-85 at the Eagles' Nest.
 
St. Mary's led for nearly the entire game, including by 20 early in the fourth quarter, to wrap up New Year's Weekend with a 2-0 showing on the road.
 
Arysia Porter added 19 points on a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the floor, and Mariah Lee chipped in 19 off the bench as five Rattlers hit double figures. Kealani Marquez (13 points) and Kiara Etheridge (12 points) also hit double digits.
 
Coming off the bench, Dezirae Elias turned in an efficient performance with eight points, six assists and six steals.
 
With the victory, St. Mary's improved to 9-3 and 3-1 in the Heartland Conference. The Rattlers handed Oklahoma Christian (5-8 overall) its first conference defeat, dropping the Eagles to 2-1 in league play. St. Mary's sits third in the league standings in the early goings, trailing Lubbock Christian (3-0) and Rogers State (3-1).
 
St. Mary's jumped to a 26-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never looked back en route to building a 47-32 halftime advantage.
 
The Rattlers shot nearly 60 percent for the game (37 of 62) from the floor, including 70.8 percent in the second half. St. Mary's also connected on 52.9 percent from 3-point range, going 9 for 17, and was nearly perfect from the free-throw line (13 of 15).
 
Defensively, St. Mary's held Oklahoma Christian to just 39.1 percent from the floor, allowing just 11 first-half field goals while accruing its massive lead.
 
The Rattlers also won the battle in the paint 38-22 and outrebounded the Eagles 38-35.
 
St. Mary's will return home for a Thursday showdown against UA Fort Smith, tipping off at 5:30 p.m. from Bill Greehey Arena.
