StMU suffers loss in Heartland semifinals to UTPB

By Ruben Dominguez | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

FORT SMITH, Ark. — With a chance to play in the Heartland Conference championship on the line, the Rattlers' Women's Basketball team came up short, losing 71-51 to Texas-Permian Falcons Friday night at host institution and No. 1 seed UA Fort Smith.

The loss could all but put an end to the season for the Snakes as they now wait for a chance at an at-large bid for the South Central Region tournament.

In the loss, Kiara Etheridge (So., San Antonio) stood out with a 19-point performance to go along with eight rebounds.

Newly crowned Heartland Conference Player of the Year Morgan Pullins (Sr., Franklin, Michigan) in her final game of her decorated St. Mary's career, put up yet another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite these big nights, the Rattlers could not find the answer for Brianna Jones, who scored 20 points to lead the Falcon offense.

Along with Pullins, Kyra Littlejohn (Sr., Southfield, Michigan) and Danielle Vargas (Edinburg, Texas) ended their careers as Rattlers lost at the Stubblefield Center.

Coach Jason Martens' team ends the season with a record of 16-11.
