By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Basketball remained atop the Heartland Conference standings after a huge performance from Marvin Binney Thursday night as the Rattlers closed out a 72-68 win over Rogers State.

Binney was the Rattlers' go-to for the victory as the senior came up big in the second half, scoring 21 points on 6-9 shooting with two assists and two steals, all in the final frame.

Binney's (Ontario, Canada) 21-point route in his 20 minutes of play in the final frame had him lead the Rattlers in scoring and join three others in breaking double-digits.

Justin Alexander (Sr., San Antonio) scored 12 points with four blocks while Kriston Minor (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Marvin Whitt (Sr., Birmingham, Ala.) each added 10 points apiece.

Minor and Whitt also tied for the team-high in rebounds with six.

The Rattlers' win over RSU kept them in a tight league race as the Snakes are currently tied with UA Fort Smith and provisional conference member Lubbock Christian for the No. 1 spot with a 12-8 overall record and 9-4 conference record.

The matchup against RSU (14-7, 8-5 in conference) came down to the final seconds as the Rattlers held a narrow two-point lead with 16 seconds remaining.

But the Rattlers were able to hold off the Hillcats in the heated game, outscoring them 44-37 in the final frame after trailing 31-28 at the half.

The Rattlers' continued fight to be the No. 1 team in the league will continue Saturday as they face foe UA Fort Smith at 3 p.m. inside Bill Greehey Arena.
