Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY — St. Mary's Men's Soccer dominated seemingly every statistic but one in Thursday's season opener against McKendree.
That one stat just so happened to be the most important of them all.
The Rattlers and Bearcats drew to a 1-1 tie in a neutral-site game at Oklahoma Christian's Eagle Soccer Field — despite StMU (0-0-1) dominating the majority of play in head coach
Michael Bonelli's debut on the sideline.
St. Mary's outshot McKendree 28-7, including a shots-on-goal advantage of 10-4, and drew 12 fouls on the day.
McKendree (0-0-1) wasted little time to bite the Rattlers, as Felipe Thompson scored 58 seconds in the game to put StMU on its heels. But the Rattlers responded when
Ryan Hoskins scored on a header from 12 yards out in the 32
nd minute.
The teams battled for 65 scoreless minutes over the second half and two overtime periods.
St. Mary's will return to action at 12 p.m. Sunday, when it makes its home debut at Sigma Beta Chi Field against Ouachita Baptist.
