SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Soccer and rival St. Edward's met up in a non-conference matchup Thursday in what could be described as none other than aggressive and intense as the Rattlers fell 2-0.

Sigma Beta Chi Field saw the Rattlers and Hilltoppers clash in the historic "Battle of the Saints" Thursday as both teams wanted to one-up the other in a heightened contest that drew a packed stadium.

But it was the Hilltoppers' striker Nick Fox and consistent defense that halted the Rattlers' claim to the "Battle of the Saints."

Fox netted both goals for the Hilltoppers in the first frame on assisted strikes in the 14th and 26th minute that the Rattlers were unable to answer.

The Hilltoppers (5-2-0) were then quieted in the final frame as the Rattlers held them to just three shots compared to seven in the first half.

The Rattlers were challenged offensively as they put just five shots with one shot on goal.

Keeper Mitchell Kilmer (RS-Fr., Frisco, Texas) recorded four saves in his 10 shots faced in the loss, falling to 2-3-2 on the season.

Victor Luna (Jr., Sealy, Texas) almost denied SEU the shutout late in the final frame with a shot that nearly got over the Hilltoppers' keeper but who was able to punch it out.

Luna led StMU in shots with two and the Rattlers' lone shot on goal.

The non-conference loss to SEU drops the Rattlers to 2-3-2 on the season but the Rattlers will get another shot at their rival in their season finale in Austin, Texas.

The Rattlers wrap up their non-conference play at 3:30 p.m. Sunday against Huston-Tillotson at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
