Box Score SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Soccer had the looks of capturing its third win on the season after going into halftime with a strong lead against Our Lady of the Lake Wednesday, but the Saints fired in the final frame to take the win, 3-2.
The Rattlers and the Saints (2-4-1) began Wednesday night's game at Sigma Beta Chi Field without much action until
Jack Wolf (Jr., Richardson, Texas) came off the bench with fresh legs to score two goals just 11 seconds apart in the 41
st minute.
The late first half surge pumped the Rattlers up as they took a 2-0 lead after recording just one shot prior to Wolf's first two goals on the season, with the first assisted by
Daniel Sanchez (Fr., Georgetown, Texas) and the second by
Nico Leora (Fr., San Antonio).
With four seconds remaining in the first frame, the Rattlers were given an untimely red card that caused the squad to try to muscle through the entire second half a man down.
The game shifted as heavy rain began to soak the pitch as the Saints capitalized on the Rattlers' man down, striking three minutes into the final frame. The Rattlers were able to stave off the Saints until the 68
th minute when Jonathan Garay struck to tie it up, 2-2.
The Saints sealed the win with just two minutes left in the game when Max O'Shea netted his second goal of the game in the 88
th minute.
The Saints put up 12 shots in the final frame to the Rattlers' one, outshooting StMU 18-4.
Mitchell Kilmer (RS-Fr.,Frisco, Texas), who was named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week this week, picked up five saves in the loss to drop to 2-1-2 on the season.
Victor Luna (Jr., Sealy, Texas) and Wolf totaled the Rattlers' four shots for the game with two apiece.
The Rattlers, who were ranked No. 6 in South Central Region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America, fall to 2-1-2 on the season.
The Rattlers are back in action at Noon Sunday as they take on Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.
