Women's Basketball spurs in second half, led by Pullins, Elias

ABILENE, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Basketball found its stride in the second half against McMurry, closing out a 67-56 victory Thursday.
 
Resisting a loss away from home as they cling to the No. 4 spot in the Heartland Conference, the Rattlers picked up their pace in the final frame after trailing by two at the half, 32-30, to the War Hawks.
 
St. Mary's kept the War Hawks (3-20, 3-14 in conference) to 24 points in the second half while it scored 37, led by Morgan Pullins and Dezirae Elias.
 
Pullins (Jr., Franklin, Mich.) led the way at the bucket at Kimbrell Arena, scoring a game-high 17 points, 12 of which came in the final frame.  Pullins also totaled four steals, helping highlight a defensively stout game that saw the Rattlers total an impressive15 steals.
 
Elias (Chandler, Ariz.) led the defensive strike, recording five steals that placed her No. 10 in the program's single-season steals record as she now has 67 steals on the season.
 
The sophomore guard also tailed 15 points, going 50 percent from the field (6-12), and two assists.
 
Kathryn Galindo (RS-Sr., San Antonio) chipped in nine points while Bria Bell (Sr., Mesquite, Texas) led on the boards with seven.
 
With the win, the Rattlers improved to 16-8 overall and 11-7 in league play to keep them at the No. 4 spot in standings and in contention for the conference title.
 
The Rattlers remain on the road to play rival St. Edward's at 1 p.m. Saturday in Austin, Texas.
