Pearce's career-high helps Rattlers handle OPSU

SAN ANTONIO — The Rattlers improved their Heartland Conference record Saturday afternoon with a 91-77 victory over the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies.
 
The Rattlers' bench put on an impressive show, scoring 54 of their 91 points. The Rattlers also dominated in the paint with 42 points and 27 second-chance points.
 
Leading the way for the squad was Kameron Pearce (Jr., Boise, Idaho), who scored a Rattler career-high 14 points.
 
Four other Rattlers scored in double digits, including Joe Monroe (R-Jr., San Antonio) with 12, Justin Alexander (Jr., San Antonio) with 11 and Ryan Thomas (Jr., Riverton, Utah) and Bryce Smith (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) with ten apiece.
 
Dominating the boards in their usual fashion, the Rattlers out-rebounded the Aggies 42-25. JJ Bolton (Jr., Beaumont, Miss.) and Monroe chipped in eight boards each, while Thomas contributed seven.
 
Smith led the Rattlers with five assists while Pearce contributed four.
 
StMU maintained control throughout the course of the game, with the score being tied only five times by the Aggies.
 
The Aggies only held the lead two times by two points early in the first half when the Rattlers took control and never looked back, leading by as much as 18 midway through the second half.
 
The foul count for both teams remained low with 27 on the Aggies' side and 24 on the Rattlers' side. The Rattlers took full advantage at the line, going 26 of 37, while the Aggies shot 19 of 25.
 
The Rattlers are on the road this week to play two crucial games against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Rogers State.
