Cold-shooting Rattlers stumble, fall to McMurry

The Rattlers dropped their second Heartland Conference matchup.
Box Score

SAN ANTONIO — The Rattlers could not overcome their poor shooting in a rare home loss Saturday.

St. Mary's Men's Basketball shot 1 for 13 from beyond the arc and shot just 35.8 percent from the floor overall in a 66-57 loss to McMurry at Bill Greehey Arena.

Trailing 57-55 with 2:21 remaining, the Rattlers 9-2 down the stretch run, as St. Mary's couldn't develop any offensive flow with the game on the line.

McMurry (8-6, 3-2 Heartland Conference) dealt the Rattlers (11-3, 4-2) just their second home loss of the season, falling to 7-2 on the year at Greehey Arena.

Guard/forward JJ Bolton recorded his second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while wing Isaiah Matthews led the Rattlers in points with 15 on 5-of-10 shooting. Marvin Whitt and Justin Alexander also scored in double figures with 10 points apiece.

St. Mary's opened up an early nine-point lead as McMurry didn't score until five minutes into the game, but the War Hawks battled back to even the score at 24-24 at the half. By late in the second half, with the Rattlers struggling with their shot, McMurry had opened up a nine-point lead of its own.

Kourtney Goff led the War Hawks with 16 points, while Connor Robinson, Alex Lewis and Alfred Perez all added 14 apiece.

St. Mary's will hit the road next Saturday, when it travels to Laredo, Texas to take on Heartland Conference-leading Texas A&M International at 3 p.m.
