Box Score

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Soccer could not hold onto a one-goal halftime lead Monday, falling 3-1 to visiting Rogers State in Heartland Conference play.

Victor Luna took a Jack Wolf pass and connected in the top shelf from close range in the 34th minute, but three second-half Hillcat goals sent the Rattlers (1-7) to 1-1 in the league standings.

Less than five minutes after Danko Kenjic's penalty kick evened the score, Kaspars Kokis put Rogers State up 2-1 with about eight minutes remaining at St. Mary's intramural field.

With the score tied at 2-2, St. Mary's had a scoring opportunity on a corner kick with 20 seconds left, but the Rattlers couldn't connect. With an open net as the Rattlers used everyone on the offensive attack, Rogers State punched in a final goal in the waning seconds.

Earlier, the Rattlers had perhaps their best chance yet, as Alex Gonzalez was fouled in the box for a penalty kick opportunity of their own. But a fantastic save by goalkeeper Joey Arnold denied Gonzalez to preserve the lead for Rogers State.

St. Mary's will hit the road for its next four games, starting with a Heartland Conference showdown against provisional member Lubbock Christian at 12 p.m. Saturday in Lubbock.
