Men's Soccer outshoots LCU but Chaps come out ahead, 3-0

LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Mary's Men's Soccer was stymied by Lubbock Christian Saturday as it was held scoreless, 3-0.
 
Although the Rattlers outshot the Chaps 20 to 18, it was the Chaps who connected for the win with LCU's Billy Forbes netting twice for his 11th and 12th goals on the season.
 
Five Rattlers had a multiple-shot game with Jack Wolf (So., Richardson, Texas) leading with four followed by Armando Macias (So., San Antonio) and Alexis Santamaria (So., San Antonio) with three shots apiece. Alex Gonzalez (RS-Fr., McAllen, Texas) and Josh Stevens (RS-Jr., San Antonio) each recorded a pair of shots.
 
With the loss, St. Mary's dropped to 1-8 on the season with a 1-2 Heartland Conference record.
 
The Chaps (5-3-1, 2-0 in conference) netted two goals in the first frame with their first coming in the 17th minute after a cross from leading scorer Forbes that assisted Jorge Elizalde. Forbes netted LCU's second goal in the 30th minute and then again 10 minutes before the game ended in the second half.
 
Five of the Rattlers' 20 shots were on target while the Chaps had six shot on goal to give keeper Patrick Kasperitis (RS-Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) three saves. Kasperitis' record went to 1-8 with the loss.
 
The Rattlers will remain on the road for a quick turnaround, playing Texas-Permian Basin at 12 p.m. Monday in Odessa, Texas.
