Lisa Dausin continues to establish St. Mary's Tennis as one of the nation's preeminent programs.
The award-winning Dausin, now in her eighth season as the head coach of St. Mary's Men's and Women's Tennis, was named Coach of the Year for the sixth time in her career after leading Women's Tennis to its sixth-straight Heartland Conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Heartland Conference.
Dausin led both programs to historic success in 2016. She led the men to their first-ever Heartland Conference championship and their first NCAA South Central Regional berth in 12 years. Meanwhile, she guided the women back to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA national championship tournament for the second consecutive season. In addition, she led the women to Heartland Conference and South Central Regional championships en route to being named the region's ITA/Wilson Coach of the Year and the Heartland Conference Coach of the Year.

The men finished the season 14-12, while the women posted a 21-4 record.
On the women's side, in 2016 Dausin coached CoSIDA Academic All-Americans Jamie Lee Denton and Cristina Lopez to great success on the courts, as Denton was named the South Central Region's ITA Most Improved Player (Senior) while Lopez earned the region's ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Denton was also named the conference's Player of the Year, while Lopez earned Outstanding Senior of the Year honors to go along with Ally Maciel winning Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year.
Dausin also coached four All-Heartland Conference men's honorees, headlined by Michael Maciel, who was also named the Heartland Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She also coached a combined 17 ITA Scholar-Athletes, including seven from the men's team and 10 from the women's squad.
In 2015, Dausin led the women's team to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA national championship tournament for the first time in program history. It marked the school's second consecutive national-tournament appearance, and the first time the Rattlers ever advanced to the championship semifinals as an NCAA member. The team's national-tournament appearance also came on the heels of doubles partners Mariana Rong and Cristina Lopez advancing in the fall to the ITA small college national championships.
Rong and Lopez earned ITA All-America honors in doubles, and both also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American status under Dausin's watch during the 2014-15 season.
The two-time ITA Region Coach of the Year has also taken the men's program to new heights, falling one game short of securing the Heartland Conference championship and falling just short of its first-ever NCAA regional bid.
The Rattler women finished the season ranked No. 12 in the nation, while the men ranked 35th nationally. Both rankings marked school records for season-ending ranking.
The 2013-14 season also brought historical success for Dausin, as the Lady Rattlers advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in program history. The Lady Rattlers swept the Heartland Conference for the second straight season with a 6-0 record to earn the league’s first regular-season title to go on and claim the postseason title as well as the South Central Region 2 bracket which the Rattlers hosted at the beautiful, brand-new Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.
The Lady Rattlers won their two conference postseason matches as well as their regional match against Cameron 5-0 before falling to No. 11 nationally ranked New York Institute of Technology in the national tournament, 0-5, to end the season with a 16-5 record.
The season also saw star Mariana Rong, who ended ranked No. 32 in the nation in singles, earn her second straight Heartland Conference Player of the Year award as well as saw the team win six All-Conference selections.
In her four seasons leading the men's and women's teams, Dausin has produced 34 All-Conference honorees, three ITA All-Americans, four Conference Player of the Year awards, one Conference Outstanding Senior award, one Conference Freshman of the Year, three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, three ITA Rookie of the Year honors and two ITA Players to Watch to go along with 34 Player of the Week awards.
Dausin earned her third straight Heartland Conference Coach of the Year on the Women’s side in 2014-15, adding to her two ITA Region Coach of the Year awards.
The Men’s Tennis program saw another year of success in 2013-14 with a 12-10 overall record and 5-1 Heartland Conference record. The young squad, made up of just one junior and senior on the 13-man roster, nearly claimed the program’s first Heartland Conference postseason title but dropped a heartbreaker to rival St. Edward’s in the Heartland Conference Championship title match, 3-5.
Men’s Tennis saw four All-Conference selections and saw a rising star in freshman Michael Maciel who was nationally ranked throughout much of the season and earned the ITA Rookie of the Year honor, a program first.
In her first season in 2011-12, Dausin had produced the program’s best showing for both women and men in recent memory only to improve upon it in 2012-13. By the end of the season, the women were ranked No. 22 in the nation while the men ranked No. 35. The men went 12-9 overall while the women posted an 18-5 mark.
Both the men’s and women’s teams dominated the Heartland Conference in 2012-13 each posting an undefeated 5-0 record. The men’s team saw four make All-Conference including senior Andrej Klipa who took home the Co-Player of the Year award. For the women’s team, four also made All-Conference including Player of the Year Mariana Rong and Freshman of the Year Cristina Lopez.
For the women’s success, who went 18-5 overall, Dausin earned her first Conference Coach of the Year honor as well as her first Heartland Conference championship title. The Lady Rattlers fell to Midwestern State, 3-5, in the regional tournament.
Shining on the Lady Rattlers were several players including the program’s first ITA All-American, Rong. Rong went on an unbelievable 21-0 singles run in 2012-13, earning six Conference Player of the Week awards. She was also named the ITA Player to Watch and finished ranked No. 23 in the nation and No. 1 in the region.
Additionally, Lopez was also named the ITA Rookie of the Year while Dausin took home the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for both the men’s and women’s programs.
The 2012-13 men’s tennis team advanced to the Heartland Conference finals, entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed. They fell to rival St. Edward’s, 1-5. Throughout the season, the Rattlers won four Heartland Conference Player of the Week awards.
In Dausin’s first season in 2011-12, she saw a program-first for the men as their 10-15 record earned them their first national ranking, topping off at No. 50. Under the first-year coach, the Rattlers also earned a program-first with a regional ranking as high as No. 10.
Throughout the season, the Rattlers battled nationally and regionally ranked competitors, Dausin's plan for prepping them for Heartland Conference play. Her plan worked perfectly as the Rattlers boasted the best record against conference competitors (4-1) and entered the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.
The men's tennis team charged the competition in conference, taking home four out of the six Heartland Conference Player of the Week awards. Dausin saw four players make the All-Conference Team, including one of the most decorated players in recent history, senior Marcin Marczewski. Marczewski earned two Player of the Week awards as well as a spot on the All-Conference Team with an overall individual record of 14-8 and overall doubles record of 11-5. Dausin saw her first Conference Outstanding Senior award through Marczewski's success.
On the women's side in 2011-12, she made quick work of the talent on the squad in her first season, improving their record from 5-16 in the 2010-11 season to 10-16 in 2011-12.
The women's team held a bulk of the conference's Player of the Week awards, winning four out of the six awards given out during conference play. Dausin saw two Rattlers earn All-Conference honors.
Before taking over as head coach for St. Mary's, Dausin served for 12 years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Northside ISD before returning to teaching this past school year, when she taught at Warren High School in San Antonio and coached middle-school tennis.
The first female hired in the school district's athletics office, Dausin served as an extension of the athletics director, overseeing the hiring of coaches and doing legal work pertaining to athletics personnel, among other duties. Before moving into the athletics office at Northside ISD, she worked at Marshall High School, coaching tennis and assisting other sports from 1980-1994. In 1995, she became the school's Girls Coordinator.
A St. Mary's graduate, Dausin has always had tennis in her blood. She played tennis, basketball and softball at St. Mary's. She graduated in 1979 with an education degree with a teacher's certification, and went on to get her master's degree in education at Southwest Texas State in 1983. She later completed her coursework for another master's degree in counseling at Texas-San Antonio in 1998.
Born in Del Rio, she spent much of her childhood in San Antonio, graduating from McCollum High School. Dausin is married to Bryan, a football coach at Warren High School. They have two sons, Ross and Rex.
