  • Title
Assistant Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Stephan Poole enters his fifth year as the tennis program’s assistant coach and head coach Lisa Dausin's right-hand man. Poole found his way to St. Mary's by way of his talent during high school, where he was coached by St. Mary's own head tennis coach, Lisa Dausin.

Last season, Poole experienced and helped coach the Women’s Tennis program to its first-ever national tournament appearance after winning the regional bracket, which the Lady Rattlers hosted, and claiming the regular-season as well as the postseason Heartland Conference Championship title for the second straight season.

Poole’s expertise to the tennis coaching staff earned him the South Central Women’s Tennis Wilson/ITA Assistant Coach of the Year honor while head coach Dausin earned her second straight Regional Coach of the Year honor for Women’s Tennis.

The Lady Rattlers went 16-5 overall last season with a perfect 6-0 Heartland Conference record en route to naming six All-Conference selectees and ending the season ranked No. 17 nationally. Star Mariana Rong ended the season ranked No. 32 nationally.

On the Men’s courts, Poole and Dausin led the Rattlers to a 12-10 overall record and 5-1 Heartland Conference record, advancing them to the Heartland Conference Championship title match where they lost a heartbreaker 5-3 to rival St. Edward’s.

The young Rattler Men’s Tennis team saw four earn All-Conference selections and freshman Michael Maciel earn the ITA Rookie of the Year honor. The Rattlers ended the season ranked No. 45 nationally.

In his second season in 2012-13, Poole helped Dausin to successful seasons for both the men’s and women’s teams while seeing the women’s team advance to the finals of the South Central Regional tournament for the first time in program history as both teams received national rankings and produced the program’s first ever ITA All-American in Mariana Rong.

Having already developed an effective line of communication - plus a successful, established tennis relationship - Poole and Dausin advanced the St. Mary's tennis squads last season with improved records and national rankings for both the men's and women's teams.

Poole joined the St. Mary's coaching staff with experience, playing tennis throughout and after high school. An alum of John Marshall High School in San Antonio, Poole made his way around the court, placing fourth in regionals for singles his junior year as well as qualifying for individual regionals for singles that same year. As a senior, Poole placed fourth in doubles. After high school, he played for the San Antonio 5.5 Men's League and the 4.5 Men's League, making sectionals twice.

Poole is completing his bachelors degree in exercise and sport science at St. Mary’s. He is married to Tara and they have one daughter, Madison and recently welcomed a new baby boy, Joshua.
