SAN ANTONIO — One day after earning the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week honors, St. Mary's University first baseman/right fielder
Garrett Brooks was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) South Central Region Hitter of the Week.
Brooks, a senior from Spring Branch, Texas, hit .444 in the opening week of the season, recording multiple hits in each of the three games at Sul Ross State, with at least one of the hits going for a home run. Brooks had a grand slam and drove in six runs on Opening Day. Over the series, he scored eight runs, walked once and played errorless defense. Brooks also increased his on-base streak to 19 consecutive games, dating back to April of last season.
He is currently tied for the nation's lead with his four home runs, leads the country with 12 RBI, and ranks third among all Division II student-athletes with eight runs scored.
This is the second time in his career he's been named the NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week, last doing so on Feb. 21, 2024 after hitting four home runs in a four-game series at Arkansas-Fort Smith.Â
