SAN ANTONIO — Taking one of the four main pillars of the Marianist charism to heart, community, the St. Mary's University Men's and Women's Tennis teams both won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Region Community Service Awards, the association announced on Monday.

The award honors a team that gives back to their campus and their community through tennis and non-tennis pathways.

"Both of our teams do a great job in the community as well as on campus," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "They should be proud of the work that they do and the impact they have made locally."

This is the second time the women's team has been presented the award, also winning in 2021. The Rattlers were honorable mention selections each of the last three seasons. It is also the second award for the men's team, who last won in 2023, and they were honorable mention picks in 2021 and 2022.

During the season, the Rattlers teams host weekly clinics for youth in the San Antonio community, volunteer with SAISD Book Buddies, Continuing the Heritage, Boo Bash, Oyster Bake Cleanup, Oyster Bake Volunteer Booth, the 50th Catholic Assembly Archdiocese of San Antonio, VITA Tax Training, the Good Samaritan Center, and at a local nursing center.
