Dominguez's Brace Lifts Women's Soccer to Win in Final Home Game

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team shut out Texas A&M International 3-0 on Wednesday evening to stay unbeaten in its last four games and hold onto sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings with two contests left.

One day after junior Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria) earned National Player of the Week honors by D2CIDA, the forward continued to shine, assisting on all three goals for the Rattlers (7-5-3, 6-4-2) to bring her point total for the season to 29.

She found junior Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) in the box in the 18th minute for a header, which went off the crossbar into the net. Paniagua now has nine goals on the year and 28 for her career.

Junior Malia Dominguez (Helotes, Texas) scored the final two goals of the night, doing so in the 32nd and 86th minutes to put away the Dustdevils (2-9-3, 2-8-2). She doubles her goal total to four for the year and 11 for her career. It is the fifth time this season a Rattler has scored multiple goals in a game, and the third brace of Dominguez's career.

Senior Haley Faucette (Burlington, S.C.) collects her third solo shutout and fourth total of the season, though she only faced one shot on goal, as the defense in front of her was stellar throughout.

The Rattlers also dominated on offense, outshooting TAMIU 24-to-4 in the game and 4-to-0 on corner kicks.

St. Mary's heads out on the road for its final two games of the regular season, playing Saturday at UT Permian Basin at 11 a.m., followed by the season finale at Lubbock Christian on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. The Falcons lost 2-1 at Midwestern State on Wednesday.
