Five from Softball Honored at Pre-Championship Banquet

CANYON, Texas — The St. Mary's University Softball team had three student-athletes named to the Lone Star All-Conference team, a Golden Glove winner and an All-Academic team selection at the 2026 Lone Star Tournament pre-championship banquet on Wednesday evening.
 
Senior pitcher Ariella Saenz (Pharr, Texas) earned Golden Glove status, not making an error in the circle over her 30 appearances. The senior has three putouts and 43 assists without a miscue over her 159 1/3 innings pitched. Saenz enters the championship with a 15-7 record and 11 complete games in her 26 starts. She leads the league in games started and is second in innings pitched.
 
Junior Iliana Melendez (Seabrook, Texas) earned a coveted spot on the All-Academic team. Melendez is majoring in bioinformatics and has started all 51 games this season. She is hitting .351 and leads the Lone Star in sacrifice bunts with 13. She is also 12-for-13 in stolen bases.
 
Gabriela Banda (San Antonio) was named to the All-Conference Second Team. The junior, who split the season between second and third base, is hitting .364 and leads the team with 25 extra-base hits, 18 doubles and seven home runs. She has a team-best 48 RBI, and her 18 doubles are the fourth-most in the Lone Star and rank 28th in the nation.
 
Both Miah Corona (Eddy, Texas) and Raegan Tennill (Corpus Christi, Texas) were voted to the Third Team by the league's head coaches. Corona leads the team with a .366 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage and has made only four errors in 397 chances at first base. Tennill has started all 51 games at shortstop in her final campaign. She is hitting .319 with 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs, is a perfect 17-for-17 in stolen bases and broke the school record for career sacrifice flies early in the year. She also ranks second in the Lone Star and 19th nationally with 128 assists.
 
Jordyn De Los Santos from West Texas A&M wins the league's Player of the Year Award, while Randi Crawford from Texas Woman's is the Pitcher of the Year. Zoey Sifuentes and Kylie Forney from Angelo State were voted the Freshman and Newcomer of the Year, respectively. 
 
The Rattlers begin the Lone Star Tournament on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against No. 21 UT Tyler.
