Softball Falters in Doubleheader With the Pioneers

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University first baseman Miah Corona continued to have a hot bat for the Softball team, but the Rattlers dropped both games of a doubleheader with Texas Woman's, falling 3-2 and 6-1 at The Park at StMU on Friday evening.

Corona, a sophomore from Eddy, Texas, extended her hitting streak to a season-high seven games, hitting .400 for the day (2-for-5) with a walk, while fellow sophomore Izabella Valdez (San Antonio) hit her second home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning of game one. Senior Raegan Tennill (Corpus Christi, Texas) also had a hit in each game, going 2-for-6 with an RBI.

The Rattlers (18-13, 10-8) managed only eight hits on the day, getting four in each game as the Pioneers (15-14, 12-6) had a pair of complete games from Randi Crawford and Caydance Gaddis.

Junior Emery Aguilar (Georgetown, Texas) picked up only her second loss of the year in game one, pitching 3 1/3 innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Senior Emily Ayala (San Antonio) fell to 2-3 on the year after pitching the first 1/3 of an inning in game two. She gave up four runs on three hits with three walks.

Senior Ariella Saenz (Pharr, Texas) started game one, pitching 3 2/3 innings, surrendering 2 runs on four hits, while she came back to pitch six innings in game two, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Rattlers remain at home, hosting UT Tyler on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Patriots swept St. Edward's on Friday afternoon.
