Second Half Strikes Sink Women's Soccer

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team faced its second-straight undefeated team on Wednesday, falling 3-0 to Texas Woman's, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

The Pioneers (7-0, 3-0 Lone Star Conference) held the Rattlers (1-4-1, 0-3) to seven shots in the game, while taking 17 of their own, and nine of those were on goal.

The StMU goalkeepers, senior Haley Faucette (Burlington, N.C.) and freshman Quetza Garza (Dallas), combined to make six saves, with Faucette making five.

Head Coach Kevin Driggs played all 28 available student-athletes for at least four minutes in the game, and for only the second time this season (East Central), no player was on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes.

Senior Valerie Hover (McKinney, Texas) and junior Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria) each had two shots, with one shot on goal.

The Rattlers head north to Austin for the annual Battle of the Saints on Saturday against St. Edward's at 7 p.m. The Hilltoppers played at Angelo State on Wednesday night.
