SAN ANGELO, Texas — After a slow start to the match, the St. Mary's University Volleyball team bounced back and won the third set and pushed the fourth to the wire, but lost in four sets in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament to UT Tyler in four sets, 16-25, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25.
It is the second straight year that the Patriots (17-11) have knocked the Rattlers (15-13) out of the tournament in the quarterfinals.
Senior outside hitter
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) led all players with 18 kills, narrowly missing a double-double with eight digs. Withers had 14 of her 18 kills in the final two sets. She ends her amazing career at St. Mary's with 1,204 kills, 100 aces, and 1,063 digs. The First-Team All-Conference selection ranks third all-time in kills, 15th in aces, and 14th in digs, as well as fourth with 1,384 points.
Senior libero
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) was the only Rattler in double figure digs, collecting 20 in her final match in the Gold & Blue. At the banquet on Wednesday night, she was named the libero of the year, a First-Team All-Conference selection and to the All-Academic team, ending her stellar career with 2,068 digs to rank second all-time in St. Mary's history and eighth with 122 ace serves.
Both senior
Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) and sophomore
Taylor Alston (San Antonio) posted nine kills on the afternoon. Robinson totaled 658 kills, 311 digs and 143 blocks in her career, and has hopes of playing a fifth season should the legislation pass at the NCAA Convention granting Division II athletes a fifth year of eligibility.
Seniors
Landry Cate (Hot Springs, Ark.) and
Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) led the team with four and three blocks, respectively. Cate finishes with 136 kills and 107 blocks in her two years, while Johnson amassed 646 kills, 94 aces, 254 digs and 361 blocks to end third all-time.
Isabella Waggoner (Texas City, Texas) collected five digs in her final match, ending her career with 549 to her career. She also tallied 50 assists.
Abbey Stiffler (York, Pa.) did not play in her final match, but wraps up her career with 441 assists and 189 digs.
