SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University and DBU Volleyball teams played three extremely close sets before the Patriots were able to pull away in the fourth set for the win on Friday evening, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-12.
A quartet of Rattlers (7-11, 4-4 LSC) reached double figures in digs, with seniors
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) and
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) each tallying 16. Withers added a team-high 13 kills for her eighth double-double of the year. Senior
Isabella Waggoner (Texas City, Texas) added 12 digs and sophomore
Kaylee Cavazos (San Antonio) posted 11.
For the fifth straight match, senior middle blocker
Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) posted at least three blocks, leading the team with five, while junior
Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) led the way with 18 assists.
Koehl, Waggoner and Wilk all had two aces, as the Rattlers served up eight in the four sets. The two aces for Koehl move her into 11th place on the St. Mary's career charts, passing Breann Alexander (104, 1999-02) and Victorria Martinez (105, 2011-14) with her 106. Next on the list, in 10th place, is Kristelle Rodriguez (1999-02) with 110.
The Rattlers remain at Bill Greehey Arena, hosting Texas Woman's on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Pioneers swept St. Edward's in Austin on Friday night.
