SAN ANTONIO — Second-year Rattler
Philipp Raickovic helped led St. Mary's Men's Tennis to a successful showing at the Trinity Quad over the weekend.
Several championship matches in the Flights were unable to be played out due to rain with several Rattlers missing their chance to be crowned.
Raickovic (So., Kurallee, Germany),
Patrick Schaefer (Fr., Winnenden, Germany) and
Brien Galon (Jr., San Antonio) all went 4-0 for the tournament.
Raickovic and D-I transfer
Adam Dockery (So., Wichita Falls, Texas) stunned in Flight 1 Doubles, advancing to the championship match that was unable to take place. The pair defeated Laredo Community College and Agogla and Garza of St. Edward's in the semifinal round 8-5.
Newbie Schaefer and Galon also would have competed for a championship, advancing to the finals of Flight 2 Doubles after downing Laredo Community College 8-2 and Mayer and Skinner of Trinity 8-5 in the semifinals.
Flight 3 Doubles slated
Luke Keller (Jr., San Antonio) and
Matt Jones (Jr., San Antonio) to compete for third place but the match was unable to be completed.
In singles play, Raickovic again advanced to the championship match in Flight 2 Singles after defeating St. Edward's and Trinity in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, while
Matt Banner (Jr., Mason, Texas) was to compete for third place but neither Rattler was able to finish due to weather.
Dockery and
Michael Maciel (So., Sugar Land, Texas) both competed in Flight 1 Singles but fell in the quarterfinals with Maciel being unable to finish his match for fifth place against Bake of St. Edwards.
Schaefer advanced to the championship match in Flight 3 singles, ending the tournament 4-0.
Richard Foley (So., Virginia, County Caven, Ireland) placed third in Flight 4 Singles and Josh Mosseri (So., Montreal) was set to compete for fifth place but was unable to finish.
Galon advanced to the championship match in Flight 5 Singles after defeating Rivers of Trinity and Bonilla of Laredo Community College while
Mateo Martinez (Sr., San Antonio) placed third in Flight 6 Singles.
The Rattlers will compete in the two-day St. Mary's Quad Invitational starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 against Division I opponent University of Texas at San Antonio at Rohrbach Stadium in the first day of tournament. The Rattlers also play D-I University of the Incarnate Word and Our Lady of the Lake during day two, which will be played at the Anne Marie Tennis Center.
