BIO:
KATHREN McCARTY, D.P.M., was an All-American volleyball player for St. Mary’s during the program’s Golden Age in the mid-1990s. McCarty led the Rattlers to two regional championships in three years after missing much of her freshman season because of an injury. During that stretch, the team won 117 matches and lost only 15. An NAIA All-American in 1995, McCarty was also named to the NAIA All-National Tournament Team in 1994. She was a two-time NAIA All-Southwest Region selection, receiving First-Team honors in 1995 and Second-Team recognition in 1996. She also received NAIA National Player of the Week honors once in 1995. Chosen as the St. Mary’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1996, McCarty was a two-time All-Heart of Texas Conference selection. She also played first base for St. Mary’s Softball in 1997.
POST-GRADUATION:
McCarty serves as the Chief of Podiatry at Christus Santa Rosa and is the Foot and Ankle Surgeon at the Sports Occupational and Knee Surgery orthopedic practices in San Antonio’s Medical Center and in the Schertz-Cibolo area. She conservatively and surgically repairs all foot and ankle injuries, with a focus in sports medicine.
QUOTE:
“Being part of St. Mary’s Athletics was one of the best times of my life. Getting selected to the Hall of Fame venerates the absolute heart and soul that my teammates and I dedicated to the program. St. Mary’s had a huge influence on me. Juggling the dilemmas of the pre-med curriculum with the exhaustive volleyball and softball schedules refined in me a solid work ethic and discipline I need in everyday life now as a surgeon and mom.”
