Point Guard (1990-1992)

Gabe Ramirez, who transferred to St. Mary's from San Jacinto Junior College, was an exceptional leader on and off the basketball court, earning numerous accolades. He was a two-time All-American, earning All-American First Team in 1991 and All-American Honorable Mention in 1992. He was also named All-Conference each of his two seasons, leading the team in scoring and assists each year. He averaged 16.6 points and 8.3 assists per game in 1991 and averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 assists per game in 1992. During the National Championship run in 1991, he averaged 30 points per game in the tournament.

His statistics and honors speak for themselves as he remains in several categories in the St. Mary’s Record Books. He still ranks ninth in the Record Books for career 3-pointers with 104 and second in 3-point field goal percentage at .450 (104-231). He set the mark for free throw percentage at .864 (261-302) and is third for career assists at 491. Ramirez still hold the No. 1 rank for career assists average at 8.5 assists per game and set the single-season record for assists with 250 in his first year — he also holds the No. 3 rank for his second season with 241 assists. He also holds the No. 1 and No. 2 ranks for single-season assists average.  

After completing his collegiate eligibility, he played professional basketball in Mexico for two years. He later served as President of the Young Alumni Chapter, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, the Athletic Booster Club, and AlumNet. He has also 
served as a Fiesta Oyster Bake Volunteer.
