Kaiser, Perez named to Preseason All-Heartland Team

Rattlers 3rd in conference preseason poll

SAN ANTONIO — With the baseball season on the horizon, the Heartland Conference has revealed its preseason poll for the upcoming 2017 season.
 
St. Mary's was pegged third in the rankings receiving one first place vote behind No. 2 Lubbock Christian and defending Heartland Conference Champions, St. Edward's.
 
Last season, the Rattlers fell one game short of the conference final after entering the tournament as the fourth seed.
 
Key players from that postseason run, Jack Kaiser and Donnie Perez, earned Preseason All-Heartland Conference selections. Kaiser (R-Sr., Friendswood, Texas) led the Rattler offense last season, batting .356 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI. Perez (R-So., San Antonio) batted .349 last season to go along with nine homers and 43 RBI.
 
The duo will look to help lead St. Mary's to its sixth conference championship in eight seasons, the last coming in 2015.
 
St. Mary's will open the season on Feb. 3 when it hosts Arkansas Tech at Dickson Stadium in the first of a three-series.
