Fields nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — The NCAA has announced the nominees for the 2016 Woman of the Year. Spanning through NCAA Division I, II and III member schools, 517 student-athletes were nominated.

St. Mary's Hannah Fields was selected as one of the nominees for the honor following a standout softball career. The San Antonio native was part of four teams that advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament, which included a World Series appearance in 2015.

Earlier this year, Fields was a recipient of the St. Mary's Presidential Award for exemplifying "leadership ideals of scholarship and service."

The 517 student-athletes nominated are the most in the 26-year history of the award. Of the 117 Division II nominees, Fields is one of six from the Heartland Conference.

Next, the Heartland Conference will select up to two nominees before the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will decide on the top 30 honorees, with 10 coming from each division. The top 30 will be honored at the annual award ceremony on Oct. 16 in Indianapolis.
